My New Year’s Resolution

I don’t think that I made any new year’s resolutions for the last few years and I found that I miss doing them and having them through the year.

My new year’s resolution for this year is to engage more with others by writing and posting and interacting more on blogs, especially with personal blog posts than I have been doing in the last three months.

Word of the Year for 2016

Each year I have picked a word of the year, but haven’t written about it since 2013. My word for 2013 was Sunny, and I think that was an appropriate word and a necessary word and idea to have in my life and in each day of 2013; it was such an awful year, but also it ultimately led me to where I am today.

The word of the year that I have picked for 2016 is Happiness. Perhaps I didn’t exactly pick it as much as it picked me. I have been working on ideas of happiness through my healing for some years, especially since I started blogging over six years ago.

As time has gone by and healing has occurred the areas of focus on happiness has changed, as I have grown and healed and learned more and more what happiness means to me/us, how much I/we love happiness, and how to it is necessary to focus on it and to invite happiness out for lunch and a nice talk in some comfortable chair in the shade on the grass, with the sun shining and a soft breeze blowing. We will be working on that a lot in this next year and blogging about it.

Focusing on doing things that bring us happiness through this year is our first goal for the year 2016.

When happiness shows up, always give it a comfortable seat.

Healing Goes Apace

I am healing at a good rate and still very happy with my surgeon and my surgery. My incisions are healing so well. Indeed my belly button incision is really indistinguishable from the little crease that the surgeon used as an incision point. So no issues with my incisions and no infections due to the operation. My ear infection issues had been coming on me for some weeks before the surgery, so it was not a surprise to see it go full blown two weeks after surgery, just very disappointing and tiring that it did.

I am able to walk about my apartment without a cane, which is great, and not something that I was able to do for some time, so I have to conclude that the gall bladder disease really impacted my health level and contributed in a large measure to the high level of pain that I was in for some time. During the holidays I was also able to walk around my sister’s home without using my cane, and had not done that in several years.

Getting an ear infection is something that has happened all my life, so I know that it is not something I can do a lot about to control or change without a huge change or possibly surgery, despite what the idiot doctors and doctor’s assistants at the nearby hospital clinic say. They truly are the biggest idiots. I really wasn’t well enough to travel all the way to my internist’s clinic, but after this experience I will have to because I am not getting proper care near where I live.

I only wish that those who have sent me home over the last several decades with ear infections had to endure an ear infection and then be told they wouldn’t get any help. This has happened to me so many times and is one of the two main reasons that I started using alternative health methods, and reason two is my back disability and back pain that had gone largely unaddressed, even after it was diagnosed.

Three days before Christmas and I got dizzy with vertigo when standing up out of bed and the next morning it was much worse. Lots of pain in both ears but the most in my left ear, as I sleep on my left side. Two days before Christmas and to the clinic I went, huge bother, dizzy the whole time there, and then to be told no medications would be given really made me enraged.

It ruined the next week, but especially being sick when going to family gatherings sucked big time. I was in huge pain and angry at several people the whole time I had any interactions with family. I should have stayed home. Next time I have to make myself stay home.

I am about half way healed from my ear infection. It is nice to be able to stand up and not have dizziness and vertigo each time.

It wasn’t for another couple of days after Christmas that it occurred to me to use the hydrogen peroxide in my ears to combat the ear infection symptoms. It had been more than six months or so since I had used this healing method, so I just didn’t think of it, and this happens quite often when I am sick.

I just can’t remember stuff that I need to in order to help myself to heal. I keep promising to write up a List of Life Hacks that I use, so that when I have any issue, I can look at the list and do some of the things that help, especially since I tend to blank on them when I need them most. That is one of my goals this year, something that I will be writing and posting about a lot here in the month of January.

Write up a life hacks list to refer to for when I have some health issue.

I decided to take one issue at a time and write a post about each of them instead of doing one big post on resolutions/goals. I think this will work out the best for me/us for this year. 🙂 Good and healing thoughts to you all. 🙂 Love yous.

Nicer Weather

Nicer weather has finally come. And not just for one day at a time. Well it would perhaps be more accurate to say that the weather is now normal for the time of year.

I went out yesterday without a winter jacket. I did have a polar fleece pullover on, but no gloves and no winter hat. That was lovely. I was going somewhere by car, otherwise by bike I still would have had to bundle up some.

I’ve been working on my New Year’s resolutions the last three months, refining and adapt them all. I am finding that they are working for me very well. I am trying to get them written down and posted soon, but please know that they have been very helpful and doing them have been very healing as well. Making  lists, on a huge number of topics, have always been helpful to me.

This morning I am going out early for a bike ride and a coffeeshop visit. I am thinking that that will be great fun. I am so looking forward to nicer weather.

A New Year’s Resolutions Review

Below are condensed versions of my resolutions of the previous four years. You will see certain themes repeat over and over, because I have been working on these areas of life and healing for many years.

For my 2014 resolutions list I’m working at developing more detailed plans into my resolutions so that I have some definite goals to work towards, going even further than I did last year, while accepting my health limitations and life challenges, so that I don’t make myself feel and believe negatively about myself for the things that I cannot achieve through the year.

Eat more chocolate. Dance in the moonlight. Look at the stars. Be creative.Laugh and play. Write. Learn. Sing. Question authority. Be brazen. Help others. Help others to heal. Heal.

Be safe. Be happy. Do the things you love. Do the loving things for your body, you deserve them. Find the moonlight, remember to dance. See the stars. Laugh a lot. Embrace your breath.

Accept healing into your cells. Make it a part of you, not just a part of your life.

Love your body.Eat more chocolate. Be yourself. Be.

More chocolate. More moving my body. More laughter. More play. More healthy eating. More boundaries. More acquaintances, friends, interactions, and support. Reach out to others.

More love.

I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I love, what brings me bliss, what I like, what I don’t like, what I do want, what I don’t want. I now want to spend more of my time with love.

More gentleness towards my body. More comfort. More in nature. See more beauty. More music. More creativity. More skills. More healing.

I’ve Plans to Make Resolutions

I really admired a recent post on guidelines for making resolutions. I re-blogged that yesterday. I agree that resolutions so often can be unrealistic, rigid, unloving, guilt inducing things that we use for a short period of time and then quickly abandon. I’ve tried to do something different for almost ten years and it has worked good for me. If you want to try the traditional type of New Year’s Resolutions, then I highly recommend reading this:

The New Year’s Resolution Solution

I have plans to make my traditional New Year’s Resolutions. I am just a bit behind. I was a bit behind last year as well, didn’t post them until January 17th. When I noticed that last week I thought, oh well that’s alright, I’m not going to be that far off the mark this year either.

Well in preparation of my resolutions post I have been reviewing the previous resolutions that I had posted to my blog. I will probably post about that review tomorrow and think that should help me quite a bit towards writing out my new list. 🙂

My New Year’s Resolutions

I looked over what I posted to the blog the last three years. I didn’t remember them in as much detail as I thought I had, so it was good to have the reminder.

I suppose many of the same goals are present in my mind this year. But I’m going to do something different this year. I’m going to try to be as specific about what I want to do, not just have more fun, or to look at the stars or to do more activities, but also what kind of activities and how I want to engage with them.

Some things I do now, but I want to encourage myself into doing them more often. Some things I don’t do right now, but want to and have wanted to get started for some time. So some of my goals are to do some activities every day, once a week or once a month; depending on how active I can be, how much I am already doing the activity, and how much it is possible where I live right now (this includes the home space as well as the distance and effort it might take to take part in the activity somewhere else). I am trying to build in a way that I encourage myself, push myself creatively, while giving myself permission to do less without building up more bad feelings about myself.

Three word summary on Healing: Walk Your Path

Read. (Every day, if possible.)

Last year I read 107 books, the year before 100, and the year before that over 200, because I was lacking a tv, or dvd player. I love reading but it is a discipline and I have to remind myself to read, especially when there are so many other things I can now do online and watch on tv and the dvd player and especially since my health issues have gotten so much worse. Reading is a priority that I want to fit into my schedule.

Read children’s books. This is something The Littles love to do! I have been remiss this past year. At Christmas time we did do more books and they loved that. But I need to be more diligent for them.

Bike. (Every day, wheather and health permitting.)

Christmas. As my lovely friend Granny told me in one of my comments from my post Thanksgiving Was Great, “I say enjoy any holiday any time you can. If you want to celebrate Christmas all year round – go for it! Whatever works for you works.”

So I resolved to do Christmas year round this year. After Epiphany I took down and packed up most of the decorations. But I left several really great things out still, including the decorated Christmas bush. I still have the Christmas coloring books out after coloring this month. I’ve watched some Christmas dvds and listened to some Christmas music so far this month. I want to make some Christmas crafts. I hope to be able to do a lot more once I move and have some more space than just my bedroom to move around and do things, doing crafts takes more space.

Music. Every day, if at all possible.

Singing, love it. Don’t do enough of it. Try to do it every day.

Move, dance. Every day, if at all possible.

Walk and exercise. As often as possible. I am using my treadmill and doing some exercises that help strengthen my legs and core.

Fun and laughter. We love those things and our life is not nearly full to bursting of those things. Right now I am exploring how to purposely bring more of it into our life.

Adventure. My lovely new friend Liz wrote about adventure for the New Year on her post Ring out the Old, Ring in the New. Yes adventure! I have to have that as a goal for this new year. I am planning on exploring and provoking adventure in my life, lol, and plan on doing one outside activity as an adventure each month and one activity for an online adventure. I’ll be reporting about that through the year.

Museums. I would like to go once a month. Last year I only went once and wonderfully it was with a friend, but this month I have gone to a wonderful exhibition and with a friend. I already have plans for another visit in a few months and want to think of another thing to go to before then.

Photography. We are finally doing this 🙂 and want to continue doing more.

Zoos. We have two zoos here in my area. They are both quite a ways away, but when the weather is warmer I am planning on going to both of them with my bike, so that I can ride the trails to see all the larger animals who live outside in warmer weather.

Friends and support. Be more present for online friends, as much as I am able. It is nice that my health is improving so that now I can do more rather than just wish to do more and hope that things will improve. Read new blogs and reach out more to those that I like. Seek new places and activities where I can find people that I will find resonance with and who might be more receptive to me.

Be as open as possible with them about how much you want the contact and what it means to me. I have trouble with this sometimes. I have always thought it was better not to ask for what I didn’t have, because then at least I wouldn’t get as directly and as personally rejected. I thought that it would hurt too much to be this honest on this level with others. But it hurts so much more to feel alone most of the time. This issue also calls for safety, boundaries, functionality, caution, and developing something with someone as time goes on. And I am going to keep reaching.

Do creativity. Every day. I want to try to remind myself to focus my attention on the fact that I already do certain things creatively, I just need to put my intention there and focus on it while doing some things that I do that are creative. It is an honoring and an acknowledgement to help me get out of feeling stuck creatively. If I can keep reminding myself that I am indeed creative in how I move through the world and live my life, then I have overcome the block that I am stuck and that I can’t do creative fun and creative work right now. It’s not true. I am doing them right now. I just want to do them more.

Write children’s books. We have wanted to do that for a long time. I will try to post what I have been doing once I get started.

Do creative projects. Once or month or once a week once I start doing more.

Collage projects. I love doing collage. It is one of my mediums that brings me true joy. Once a month or once a week as things start moving in a better direction in my life, moving and getting settled into my own place.

Poetry/writing. I have sort of been blocked from doing much in the last few years. If only I had knew that would be a consequence, that my creative work would be stalled in many ways, I never would have moved to live with anyone else. I have reached out to someone who is forming a group and there is a possibility of joining his poetry/writing group when it gets started. Not sure how this will go, but here is the thing. I know what I don’t want. I know what I won’t tolerate. I know what my boundaries are. I’ve already experienced that in a group. No matter what I need more practice doing connectedness while interacting with others. Group experiences like this will be good for me to continue attempting.

Combat clutter. Clutter is one of those things that gets in the way of my life and of doing everything. Clutter blocks up energy. But it is an old coping skill from my childhood when I needed to block up a lot of the energy that was negative, bad, destructive, and abusive. Having a small living space here means that it is so easy for clutter to get a foot hold. One bump and a whole pile of papers go tumbling, creating clutter if I don’t deal with it all promptly. It’s hard to still have to be living out of boxes, but  a lot of stuff still has to live in boxes until I move. I have gone through many of the boxes, donating some things, repacking most, and taking out some things I really want around me, special books, movies, and healing things. I still have more boxes to go through.

Puzzles. The Littles love to do puzzles. I buy them from used stores and we have quite a lot of them right now. Once a month or more.

Coloring books. I know I’ve written about this issue in December. At least once a month.

Dollies and stuffies. I often forget to put them near me when I am on the computer and often don’t get up for them while working when someone wants to snuggle one. Right now a bunny and a dolly are within arm’s reach. That is the way it should be.

Play games. This is a tough one, but I am hoping that I find new friends who like to play board games.

Healing. If you know me at all, you are probably thinking well even just saying it is kind of redundant. It is sort of what I do in addition to breathing in and out. But it is important for me to do more intentional healing work on my childhood. I usually do one huge project a year; like connectedness two years ago and then pack leader/body energy last year. I see that there are many issues I would like to be more intentional and put focus on them this year. But also I am willing to be guided by my intuition and my spiritual guides as I get information. I think this will get much better and easier once I have my own home space where I don’t have to share the noise, energy, and life of others in it. And energy space of my own is something that has proven to be important to me.

Reiki energy healing work. This year has already showed me how much I can do, if I only can just get focused and do. I am really heartened and encouraged at all that I have seen and been able to experience lately in this healing work and am so very very excited about it all. I am a healer.

I have already done four Reiki healing sessions for others and two for myself this month. I have plans on working on myself with Reiki a lot this month and probably for months. My Reiki sessions on myself have been wonderfully powerful and I feel a huge amount of damage falling away from me. That is so lovely.

I am also more connected to my Reiki Masters (Teachers) lately and can ask them advice and for feedback on what I am going through and that is very encouraging and mood boosting.I really need that. One of my Reiki Masters is talking to me about perhaps taking Rainbow Reiki classes. I guess I have to think about that, I think the answer is maybe. There is also the possibility of joining a group for Reiki shares, where Reiki people meet and do healing work on one another. I want to do that a lot, so long as there isn’t an abusive member. If there is, then I won’t be there.

I would also so much like to finally hook up with some other drummers, especially for a women’s drum circle, if that can happen, I would be very happy indeed. I have a drum, but I just don’t use it. What I have concluded recently is that I need to do more Reiki healing first before working with the drum. So I am working on that.

I am planning on finishing up my fourth level class for Karuna Reiki, the compassion Reiki. For those of you who know me,  you can probably guess I kind of ran at the idea of classes that were specifically for compassion for others and healing them, especially for child abuse issues.

I have joined a few meetup groups that meet locally and am really hoping and excited about the possibilities of fun, connections, adventure, and joy that attending some good groups might bring. Mostly that will have to wait for another couple of months for nicer weather. If nothing else I will keep reaching.

What do I want for others this year, blog friends and others that I love?

To quote Michael Buble in his version of Feliz Navidad, I wish you love and joy.

My 2012 New Year’s Resolutions

One thing I decided to do for this year’s resolutions was to write down what I want more of.

More chocolate.

This one tends to be on every year’s resolutions. I’m not sure if I am achieving this resolution each year, but I try and I enjoy it while trying.

More moving.

This is one that I have been working on for a few months. I started walking some every day, if I can, and moving as much as I can each day as well.

More laughter.

I have been working on this as well. I have started to watch more comedies that make me laugh. Netflix online is great for this; some that make me laugh each and every time: Monty Python, Keeping Up Appearances, Blackadder, Red Dwarf, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, 30 Rock. Also there are repeats of some shows; Seinfeld and the Big Bang Theory. I also enjoy cartoons that make me laugh, especially the old Warner Bros. cartoons, Spongebob and The Emperor’s New School.

More play.

There are lots of things that I love to do that are play. The Littles love to play. The Teens love to play too, it is just more low-key things for them. I need to work more on identifying the things we want to do that we consider play and to find ways to do them.

I also am working on being more lighthearted with others. I like being like that and it is enjoyable to interact with others in a way that is silly. The Littles enjoy silliness and so do I.

More healthy eating.

This is something I work on every year. I am definitely moving in the right direction. I am buying some gluten free foods from the local food co-op and keeping track of the little teaching sessions they offer. I am thinking of doing that in the near future as well as buying a subscription for organic food from a local farm through the co-op this summer.

More boundaries…

to protect myself from abusive behavior. I have to keep reminding myself that, you can leave, when I am not safe or not feeling safe or when someone is being abusive or manipulative towards me. I can leave. I can have that as a boundary. I don’t have to be with them. I can now take better care of myself.

More acquaintances, friends, interactions, and support.

Keeping my physical and financial challenges and limitations in mind, I am reaching out more to others. I want to do more. I want to find new people to do enjoyable things with. I can’t most of the time. But I can still do things online. Finding new friends is the most wonderful miracle for me.

I have joined three local meetup groups that I would like to get to a couple of meetings this year. I also found a science fiction/fantasy group that I would like to join. I am really excited about these groups.

More love.

I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I love, what brings me bliss, what I like, what I don’t like, what I do want, what I don’t want. I now want to spend more of my time with love.

More gentleness towards my body.

This is something that recently has really gotten a grip on me. Not just that I need to do it, but that a huge difference has happened in the last few months and I am free of some of the aftermath issues around this topic. I am not always gentle, but I am learning how to be gentle when doing basic cares and to learn how to nurture my body with love in my heart and a gentle, respectful touch while taking care of my body.

More comfort.

My body is in pain all the time. I have had chronic pain for over twenty-five years. I know that no reason is necessary for embracing comfort in my life. But somehow I still feel as though I need to have a reason to do it. This year I will try to be using comfort and become more comfortable with it. I will probably be writing about this on the blog.

More in nature.

It truly is like fuel for me. I realize that and want to assist myself in fueling myself and in nurturing that desire. I like being happy. Being in nature makes me happy.

See more beauty.

I do think that nature can be very beautiful. I enjoy that very much. Beauty can also be art and creativity. Beauty can also be many other things. Beauty can also be a part of daily life. I want to do that.

More music.

I’ve been able to get some used music cds in the last few months and listen to many of them. I am discovering new artists and getting some cds of artists that I love, but couldn’t afford, and finding some new great cds for listening to while relaxing, breathing, and doing Reiki. The music is making me feel very happy.

More creativity.

I have my craft things out, since getting them back from storage, and have started going through them. I have a bookshelf to put out some things and organize them. I figure that since they will be out, I will find it easier to start back into doing more creative things. I need to take out my digital camera and start using it. Once I get going on some things I want to start sharing more on the blog about it all.

More skills.

I want to learn more skills. In creativity, in art, in life, in techonology, in advocacy, in starting a non-profit for survivors.

More healing.

I want to work on healing more for myself and others. I want to live my life with healing in my mind and daily life, not just some of the time. I think that I have done a pretty good job of doing healing, but I want to do more. I want it to be my life as an opportunity for healing, whenever something comes up that is from the abuse or the aftermath of abuse, I want to be able to see it for what it is and to counter-act it in my daily life. I want to work towards that.

My 2011 Resolutions

My 2010 Resoultions

My New Year’s Resolutions 2010

In the past I tended to make the same New Year’s Resolutions and not get too far in them, except to make myself feel guilt-stricken and worse about myself. Too bad that resolution never occurred to me from the outset, cause then at least I could have said at least I accomplished one of them.

Then I decided almost ten years ago to make resolutions that I would enjoy and that would be either healing and/or validating to myself and my basic interests and selfhood. Here are some for this year:

Eat more chocolate.

Dance in the moonlight.

Look at the stars.

Be creative.

Laugh and play.

Question authority.

Be brazen.

Help others.

Help others to heal.

What are some of yours?
