Yesterday was the first day of Spring and I decided to have a celebration.
First I went to the library to pick up a set of dvds on hold, the first season of the tv show, Major Crimes. I’ve seen the five seasons in the past, but we wanted to watch it again. I was a fan of the show The Closer, before Major Crimes, an off-shoot from the show The Closer. All of the main characters were a part of the original show. We love the mothering that the main character does to her foster teenager. We love the character, Sharon Raydor. I was looking forward to picking up the discs and watched quite a few episodes last night. That was a nice part of our celebration.
While at the library we also stopped off at the Dunn Bros. coffee shop. I enjoy having a coffee, sitting for a while, taking in the ambience and effect of the shop and especially in the library building. I love the library building. I sat and enjoyed my coffee and listening to a book read aloud.
I then went out to eat a special meal. I don’t go out to eat by myself that much during the winter, so this was an acknowledgement of spring and the coming warmer weather, along with the increased access to the roads and the neighboring areas. I went to Chipotle. The staff person recognized me from about two weeks ago and I gave him a big compliment for my previous meal. As a consequence, he gave me a huge amount of food for my hard shell chicken tacos. So I was incredibly spoiled and full. And the food was great. A great celebration dinner was had by all.
I also fit in a trip to the store for some supplies and some food, which was great to get done. That made it nice to not have the pressure to have to go out again the next day, if I didn’t want to. It was nice to go out and celebrate the arrival of spring, but it was also nice to arrive home and to continue celebrating it with watching the tv show. It was nice to be able to celebrate the leaving of winter and the arrival of spring.
I’m happy to say that I have been continuing my Advent Sunday celebrations and enjoying them.
Last Sunday I had decided to change things around a little bit. I chose to have a pizza party for one. I love pizza and since I don’t have it often and didn’t have it for several years due to gluten restrictions, I am glad that I found a great gluten free pizza that is good and affordable as well.
I had a great time. The usual stuff: music, a candle, the manger scene, some Christmas tv specials, the Christmas tree lit up, food I enjoy.
I had been slowly decorating my small apartment for the Christmas season. That always makes me/us very happy. It is amazing to me how much joy a few decorations can bring to me. I have decided like last year I am going to keep up my decorations for a while after the holiday. It brings me joy and I like that.
I think that everyone should feel free to do the little things that bring them joy all through the year and Christmas stuff is something that brings me joy. I know this is a hard thing for survivors of childhood abuse to figure out and to figure out how to do and how to be good to themselves. I think it is an essential part of life and healing to learn how to be good to yourself and to do good self-care.
I hope that you can do something that you enjoy this month and I hope you continue doing something good and happy for yourself in the coming new year. Good and healing thoughts to us all.
Here are some winter solstice ideas that I liked a lot:
Decorate homespace with found items of nature.
Setting an intention for celebration.
Watch the first winter sunset.
Use candles to light your home.
Set intentions for the upcoming year.
Bell ringing ceremony.
Fire releasing ceremony.
I’ve done a fire releasing ceremony in the past. It was tremendously healing and focusing. We wrote down everything that we wanted to release and heal from and then the rolled up list was burned, outside. I would like to do that again, perhaps at the new year, if it is possible.
For my celebration of Solstice this Sunday I am going to have candles, though artificial ones, do a short bell ringing ceremony, with my favorite crystal bell, and set intention for the coming new year.
A short explanation of my intention for the new year is homespace and what that entails, inner reality space, my living space, and the reality of myself that I take with me wherever I go, accepting myself and my life and the things that I am and that I love and do, so that I take my self-love and self-acceptance with me wherever I go. I’ve been working on several of these issues for some time this year, so this will be exciting because I see that I have done a huge amount of healing and progress in these areas and I’m really and seriously looking forward to my healing path in 2015.
I’m sure that I’ll be writing more about that in the near future.
A very merry half-birthday to me
A very merry half-birthday to me!
I am not sure what special thing I am going to do, but I will let you all know.
For those of you who think that half-birthdays don’t or shouldn’t matter after a certain age or god forbid should not be celebrated, I pity you, I sincerely do.
Love to you all.
I hope that you all have a safe and Happy St. Patrick’s Day.
I love my Irish heritage. It is a nice and sustaining part of my self-identity. I started celebrating early yesterday by putting on some of my favorite Irish music. I even danced a little jig. Here are a few things that I wanted to share:
Lord of the Dance: Siamsa
Van Morrison and the Chieftains, Star of the County Down
Michael Flatley & Maria Pagés, Firedance from Riverdance,
Flamenco and Irish Tap
Anuna, Cloudsong, from Riverdance
Michael Flatley and dancers, Thunderstorm, from Riverdance
Anuna, Home and the Heartland, from Riverdance
And finally my favorite Irish folk song:
amokreutz, The Lark in the Morning
It’s nice to have two holiday celebrations within a couple of days of each other that focuses on looking forward to the coming of spring. I know that I sure am looking forward to the coming of spring.
I’m trying not to think about how unlikely it is that we will have an early spring or an early spring forecast. But I think for some of this day I will be dreaming of a summer day and perhaps listening to some Beach Boys songs. 🙂
Well oddly the game is today. I don’t think that used to happen in the past. I thought that they used to only have one week in between the two last games of football in a season. But this year it was two weeks and so oddly it is going to be on Groundhog’s Day. I will be watching the game today, and more importantly the new commercials and having some lovely food as well.
Yesterday for Michaelmas, I went out to have lunch with a relative. It was lovely.
I had a great meal. I got to see and spend time with someone that I love very much. We talked about movies and tv shows and covered a lot of topics. We are tentatively planning on doing this again. That was lovely.
It was a great Michaelmas celebration to me.
Once home I felt really tired out. The day had turned from rain in the morning to lovely and warm in the afternoon. I thought about a bike ride or a trip to the library, but first I wanted to take a nap. I slept for a long time, so didn’t do any biking later. But Monday and Tuesday are forecast to being warm and nice, so I will do something then, if my body is feeling well enough. First I need to do some Reiki and help my body to feel better.
I have a particular fondness for Michael the Archangel. So each year I try to remember his feast day and to do something nice for myself, have a nice meal, take a nice bike ride, sit out in the sun, remind myself that I am loved, and that the angels protect me.
