Polyvore Membership

So I finally retrieved my polyvore membership. Surprisingly even though I had not ever made an collages, I still had a membership there from three years ago.

Here is my profile page at Polyvore: Kate1975.

I am going through the same anxiety that I did three years ago when I created my membership there. There aren’t any directions. I know that I usually can figure stuff out, but there aren’t directions. On wordpress there are directions and even though some of those are very confusing and disturbing, I can most of the time figure out how to do something. Not true with Polyvore.

I was searching online for some kind of tutorials or explanations and can’t find anything that actually explains how to make it work. I think the kind of collages I want to make will work best when using the Template. But there are no directions on that page on how to upload pictures to the template. Simple stuff like this without directions is way beyond me. It always has been, especially when it is on the computer.

I did manage to create one collage. I tried more stuff, but I couldn’t get the pictures to get bigger or smaller. I couldn’t figure out a lot of stuff. I couldn’t figure out how to add text. It was incredibly aggravating. I searched for explanations at the site, but couldn’t find anything that helped.

Any help would be appreciated. I’d like to try to learn how to use this site, but I really need help to figure it out.

  1. Dear Kate, I wish I could be of some help, I’ve never heard of this. I had a quick look, I am very new to anything on a computer, there seems to be a ‘mini editor’ thing, in there they say there’s a tutorial. I don’t know if this may help, best of luck, it looks like a nice way to express yourself in pictures, Wishing you positive thoughts and energy..hope the move goes well, sending calming vibes as well, as I personally would find it really stressful…lol

    • Hi,

Thanks. I did see some stuff on the site that was marked tutorials, but they weren’t helpful at all, at least not as far as I could figure it out. Thanks so much for the calming vibes, how nice of you.

Good and healing thoughts to you.

  2. hmmm….im not quite sure of the point or goal of this site…it actually seems that it is selling items/looks in high profile mags and you get to design your own ‘ads’ or ‘looks’ by creating sets. while i see that you may also be able to create ANY kind of ‘set’ you seem to be somewhat limited by many of the available images being clothing, makeup, perfume, flowers, etc. in any case, by going to templates, and then choosing a tab from the box in the upper right, you can choose what items you want to save and then use saved items to fill your set. well that was how it seemed to work to me….hope this is helpful, if not, sorry!! i tried!

    • Hi Kat,

Thanks so much dear for looking for me. I really appreciate that! There are several groups there for survivors of childhood abuse and from what I have seen, they make ones that are very evocative and healing. I wouldn’t be focused on fashion, but I do think that was a big part of polyvore and still is.

Good and healing thoughts to you.

  3. Hi Kate, I never read directions but will offer what I know-which is not much arguably! The template lets you make collages from my experience. There’s photos on the right hand side of the page in categories. Fashion items on top and text, background, shapes, etc. at the bottom. You drag the picture you want with your mouse over to the template and place it where you like. It’s possible to increase and decrease the size of the pictures by dragging on the arrow on the pic ’til it’s the size you want. You can make the pic transparent or regular by the three boxes in the upper right hand corner of template. Top box is to make pics transparent, second box is normal and last box is custom. At the top right there’s also a bar within the template with tools to flip the pic, place it in the opposite direction, etc. Also on the pic itself there’s a “string” on top of the pic you click and drag to turn pic the way you prefer. Left hand side of template frame has the place for saving your draft and for publishing.

Or you can just go to homepage of Polyvore and at the bottom they have a menu of stuff, including “Help”. It covers how to do stuff.

      • Hi Natalya,

Thanks. I read the explanation, but it still doesn’t have explanations for things I can’t figure out. And the only words I can get it to copy is I love polyvore, blergh. I hope I can figure things out. Thanks for the link. I appreciate it so much.

Good and healing thoughts to you.

      • Oh that’s too bad. The I love Polyvore text can be changed if you look to the top right of the template. There’s a place that allows you to retype the text and alter font.

      • I don’t know why they don’t have any symbols that I can understand there. Usually I can figure out a lot when I try to teach myself a site. Thanks so much for the explanation. When I have time I will try. These issues are why I didn’t go back and try to make collages. I can’t cope well with the terror of not knowing how to do something when I can’t figure it out.

Good and healing thoughts to you.

      • LOL, sorry! I know I am not great with giving directions. I’m highly visual so prefer drawing people maps when I’m asked for map directions! lol I’m even worse with directions for stuff like games or activities on the web 😛

      • No, It is not about you. I/we have a lot of trouble with a learning block. We can only learn physical activities by doing them. Written explanations are quite difficult to understand and to implement, why we did not make any collages for the past three years.

I’ve figured out youtube, photobucket, wordpress, webs.com, and emails by myself, without any tutorials or directions. I usually just try stuff, so you can see we learn by doing. But with polyvore there is not enough words on their stuff for us to figure the collage making and the directions we have found there don’t explain stuff to us. When I can’t figure something out by myself that is when a huge wave of anxiety and terror washes over us, so this makes it hard when something isn’t easy for us to figure out. We have issues around technology due to methods of abuse with tech things. It is not rational. We have overcome a lot and learned a lot, but we still have the fears and phobias and they get in the way of doing things that we want, especially any techie things. It is not about your explanations.

Good and healing thoughts to you.

    • Hi,

Yes please add me. That would be great. 🙂 And I will follow you as well once I see you are there.

Do you collect things from websites or just from polyvore, do you just save them to your computer or is there a save option for photos on polyvore, like on pinteres? And how do you upload pictures from other places to a collage?

Good and healing thoughts to you.

  4. i don’t upload pictures myself but a lot of people do use pinterest to do it. When you first sign into polyvore, on the top right hand side, just before your nickname, you will see a box with a number in it. If you click on that box it will take you to your activity page. Near the top of the activity page you will find a box with lots of things written in blue writing. Hopefully you will see ‘Get the clipper’, you need to download the clipper tool to be able to upload your pictures on there. From what i remember it gives instructions a long the way.
Give me a shout if you have any problems x

    • Hi,

Thanks so much. I probably won’t get back there until after Saturday, I’ve got a few more boxes to pack up tonight and laundry to do and am not feeling well. I slept a lot today.

Good and healing thoughts to you.
