My Poetry

I Want to Give You Pause

I want to bump up against you
I purpose my words on line
for the exact impact I want

never for the perfect word
on the perfect line
rather

some imperfect words
with imperfect sounds
and imperfect pause

I want to bump up against you
not just with words
but with spaces
and pauses

we are interacting
you and I
in a dance

if I guide you perfectly
fluidly
what have you learned
of me?

if I guide you imperfectly
in my world
you have not only danced
with me
you have danced with my soul.

I want to give you pause.

Come dance with me.

  1. This poem touched my heart. For so long I strived to only show people my “perfect” side which meant that they never truly knew me at all. It is only the people who have seen all my imperfections who actually know me! This wonderful…thank you for sharing

    • Hi Kira,

I want to be as real as possible, in my life and in my words, as hard as that can be. Thank you for your kind words.

Good and healing thoughts to you.

  2. I have to admit I rushed over here to read your poetry 🙂

    I love this. It’s yum. 🙂

“I want to bump up against you” — that’s my favourite bit I think, it’s so true to how we’re all interacting, like atoms bumping into atoms and spinning off in new directions.

    This bit here:

    “if I guide you perfectly
    fluidly
    what have you learned
    of me?”

that’s such a wonderful insight. It reminds me of how people relate to life and the universe, asking why bad or uncomfortable things happen. Everything happens — good and bad — to teach us what existence and being is.

In other news, I was looking through your categories and kept thinking Yes! in recognition of similar experiences and similar tastes and similar thoughts.

    • Thanks so much! I’m glad that we found each other. It was so odd because I was doing some wordpress surfing and I don’t usually do that very often but so glad that I did. It feels great to have found you.

Good and healing thoughts to yous.
