My New Year’s Resolutions 2010

In the past I tended to make the same New Year’s Resolutions and not get too far in them, except to make myself feel guilt-stricken and worse about myself. Too bad that resolution never occurred to me from the outset, cause then at least I could have said at least I accomplished one of them.

Then I decided almost ten years ago to make resolutions that I would enjoy and that would be either healing and/or validating to myself and my basic interests and selfhood. Here are some for this year:

Eat more chocolate.

Dance in the moonlight.

Look at the stars.

Be creative.

Laugh and play.

Write

Learn.

Sing.

Question authority.

Be brazen.

Help others.

Help others to heal.

Heal.

  1. Kate, I “resolved” years ago not to make any New Year’s resolutions. For two reasons. One – as you describe, the failure to keep any of the resolutions was a fast track to self hatred.

    The second reason – which is perhaps more important to me now – why wait until New Year to make change in your life?

    So, my biggest resolution now – regardless of the time of year – is to fix all my idiosyncracies, to learn to love and care for myself, to learn to love and help others more, to do things in life that make me happy……. it’s a long, long list. I won’t bore you.

    I hope I can achieve some of these things sooner rather than later, but I’m not going to let the calendar dictate that for me. That in itself is progress for me.

      That sounds very healing. Good for you. I also embrace change and healing all the time. Making this list is a fun thing to do this time of year and I purposely refuse to make any limits to when I achieve or don’t achieve the resolution.

      January in Minnesota is pretty dark and overcast and cold. This year I get to get out and look at the grass and not wear a winter coat in California. It is pretty nice, but I still like making my resolutions.

      That sounds great. I know that if you follow your heart you will be embracing many wonderful, good, and healing things. Because that is what you and your heart are. Good and healing thoughts to you.

  2. This list made me smile… This is the sort of positivity that is healing and life changing in the long term.

    My resolution would be to keep on finding things that I enjoy and make me happy.

    I hope that many of your resutions are met and you continue on your healing path…

  3. This is absolutely fantastic. I love LOVE love that the very first resolution is to eat more chocolate. I want to print this list out and put it on my wall as a reminder of what cool people do to love themselves.
