Mother-Daughter Sexual Abuse Resources

Notice: This blog is a healing blog by a survivor of child sexual abuse. This blog does not include specific details about child sexual abuse, fiction or non-fiction, nor do I post any links on my resource pages that do. Attempting to find them on my blog or on any of my survivor resource pages is an exercise in futility.

Survivor Resource Pages (Forty pages of resources, non-profit organizations, articles, and healing support for survivors of child sexual abuse, rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, and dealing with the aftermath of child sexual abuse.)

(Please note, I highly recommend that survivors do not join or participate in fee based online message board groups that are owned and run by therapists. The therapist charges a monthly fee. I have experiences and known others who have had experiences that were negative, painful, abusive and very unhealing. However the survivors I knew at those message boards were wonderful.

I would advise anyone to avoid fee based therapist owned message boards like the plague and to not pay for any message board interactions for memberships there. I realize that everyone must make their own choices, but have come to believe that I should make a statement of my beliefs on my blog.)

  2. Wow, thank you for this! I tried finding info on MDSA and it was very difficult. I only found a handful of books and most were reference type books for professionals. I am so pleased to see all of these resources on the topic. I am a survivor of MDSA and feel grateful you’ve made this list. Thanks again.

    • Hi,

You’re welcome. When I first started working on healing from mother-daughter sexual abuse I found one book. So I am very glad that there are more resources out there now and that more people understand that it (female sexual offenders) too is abuse and that it too happens and that it does not happen rarely.

The books that I would recommend for you to read the most are:

When You’re Ready: A Woman’s Healing from Childhood Physical and Sexual Abuse by Her Mother by Kathy Evert

      Broken Child by Marcia Cameron

The Deepest Wound: How a Journey from El Salvador Led to Healing from Mother-Daughter Sexual Abuse by Linda Crockett

These three books are the best, I think, and focus a large amount of the book on their healing process. Still I have managed to read almost all the other books out there. Some were good, some where helpful, most where healing, but these three are the best.

Good and healing thoughts to you.

      • Hi,

I’d love to hear from you in the future. It is great for me to find other MDSA survivors. There is no one else in the world that I feel the strongest commonality and sense of love to as MDSA survivors. That is why I love to have other MDSA bloggers listed on my MDSA resource page. So just to let you know I listed both of your blogs on my MDSA resource page.

As well it would be great if you give me your reactions to the books here or if you post about them on your blogs, just a caution, all of them can be very triggering because the authors write about flashbacks and I found it very hard to read about. Take them as slow or as quick to read as suits you best.

Good and healing thoughts to you.

      • Thank you. I haven’t read any of the books yet b/c I am rather poor being unemployed currently. The books were not available in my local libraries either-except for one. But I don’t have the money right now to order them but may order one or two when I’m able to. Thanks for sharing my blogs.

      • Hi,

I’m sorry that you are unemployed right now and unable to get the books. Which one were you able to read from the library? I am asking because I have copies of a couple of them and would be willing to send them to you. Let me know.

Good and healing thoughts to you.

      • Hi, thanks for the offer but I want to remain anonymous at this point-as much as that’s possible in the 21st century digital age! Thanks so much for your kind offer though. I’ve found one for $22 at Indigo so am going to get that one (all the rest were much more expensive). Thank you for your support 🙂 The university libraries had a few of the books on your Amazon list but only students can borrow them. I could, however, read them if I stayed inside the library.

      • Hi,

I understand that. I try to find my books on amazon used from another person. But that isn’t very nowadays. I saw broken child on sale for a dollar yesterday with four dollars for shipping. When you’re ready is usually available for about five dollars plus shipping. I’m a big amazon used book shopper. That’s why I’ve bought a few extra copies. $22 sounds like a lot of money, is that The Deepest Wound? That one always costs too much.

I went through that as well with a university but I could borrow them through my regular library card through inter-library loan, not sure if you have something like that, but that was how I got a hold of some of the books initially. I could do the inter-library loan online by myself and when I had to pick up the books and have them checked out I told the librarian that I was needing the books for my college course child abuse and neglect. I thought that it was none of their business if I had gone through MDSA or not.

My college library allowed anyone from the surrounding area to come in with their library card and they could get registered to take out books, is that a possibility at that school?

Good and healing thoughts to you.

      • Thanks. I hadn’t considered buying the books used. Are they normally in good condition? The book I was looking at was A Mother’s Touch. I live in Canada and books are usually a bit pricey here. But I could try the used avenue via Amazon.ca(Canadian Amazon).
The universities don’t have inter library loans unless you’re a student. I’m not so am not eligible. I know this because I was a student at one of the universities for many years. Later I went to ask if I could borrow a book if not registered for courses anymore and I couldn’t. But it’s okay. If I really wanted to I could go in and sit down and read the book(s) while I’m there. Not that I’d be able to finish them but it’s better than nothing.
        Thanks again 🙂

      • Hi,

Sorry I don’t know about Canada, but yes amazon used prices made some of the books affordable and most of the books I got were in good condition. One time I got a bad book but I emailed the seller and they refunded the money.

Do you have a regular library card? I would suggest you go to that library and request information on how to look for inter-library loans by yourself. Some older systems only allow the librarian to do the searching, but now with more technology you can do an inter-library loan request online by yourself once you know how. There will be a link, usually at their online homepage. At least it is possible here in US. Though library systems vary around the country. The university libraries might not allow you to do it there, but you can do a request through your regular library. I’ve done this quite often online, looking for books I can’t afford, and I see many books from universities across my state listed there, so I know they are available. Not sure if that will be the same for you. Not many mdsa books might be available, but since some are at the university that you know of, it is possible you might be available to do a inter-library loan through the regular library with your library card.

Good and healing thoughts to you.

      • Hi, thanks for the tip. I’d forgotten that as an option! It totally left my brain that I could do the inter library thing with ALL libraries. So thanks so much! I’m very grateful for you bringing it up again. Thanks.

      • I just ordered 3 from several different libraries! One was from a library in Maine and another from Boston. Only one from Canada! Seesh, these MDSA books aren’t very plentiful, are they? 😦

      • Hi,

I’m glad that you were able to get some from the library systems. That is great. No, there aren’t that many of them out there at libraries. It reminds me of how hard it was to get a book on child sexual abuse from a library before “The Courage to Heal” came out, twenty-five years ago.

Good and healing thoughts to you.

      • Wow, yeah I can’t even imagine how hard it must have been to find resources before 1990. Thank goodness for the internet, huh? 🙂

      • Yes. When I first started working on healing there were only three books on child sexual abuse in my library system. I remember reading them. Only one was good, it was an anthology of poems and short stories written by survivors of child sexual abuse. But there wasn’t one book that could be called self-help on healing. A few years after that “The Courage to Heal” came out. Soon after many books were being published.

      • Yes me too. Things have changed so much and yet there has been an incredible backlash as well. It is so much easier to heal and to find a therapist who believes that abuse happens and to find books that are about healing and the struggles of other survivors who have been so brave to share their stories.

Good and healing thoughts to you.
