Nurturing Yourself #3
September 23, 2009 at 2:12 am 15 comments
How have I nurtured myself recently?
I ride my bike.
I have dolls.
I have stuffed animals.
I read.
I read kid’s books.
I watch healing and silly shows and movies.
I listen to music.
I sing.
I do creative things.
I go out in nature.
I watch for stars and look out for planets.
I hold rocks.
I go to libraries and bookstores.
I go shopping for used books and bargains.
I blog and read other blogs.
I use The Woman’s Comfort Book by Jennifer Louden for ideas of things to do.
I use Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy and Romancing the Ordinary by Sarah Ban Breathnach for ideas of things to do.

This is a great list, Kate. Thank you for sharing. I listen to music. I while away time in bookstores. And I buy myself flowers.

Hi Kerro,
That is a good list.
I had already decided that when I am moved I will start buying flowers. My next list will be what can I do from now on to nurture myself and I am thinking of what to add to it right now.
What type of music do you feel really nurtures you?
Kate

Hi Kate, the music that nurtures me is generally instrumental… I have some new age piano pieces that are just so beautiful. But, I do have eclectic taste, so there are times when P!nk really nurtures a spot as well.

I love your list Kate!!
I can just see your new home with tulips in a lovely vase.
I am reading a Teenager book right now and I am loving it, I have thought several times that I should tell you about it. It is called “Birdwing” I will tell you the author later. This is the best topic, so inspiring!
I have to find my copy of “Simple Abundance” it is truly a wonderful book.

Hi Vicki,
I will look the book up online next week when I have some free time.
Have you seen Romancing the Ordinary? It is lovely too.

Fresh cut flowers – how can they not be cheery?
Books and more books, of course. I also read kids and YA books.
Listen to my 10 year old giggle.
Weed the garden.
Pet my dog.

I sing out loud to songs that I love. I also collect rocks. I have a collection of stuffed animals. One is a black and white panda bear that I slept with for a few years when I first started doing healing from incest and got in touch with my inner children who needed comforting. I watch movies that make me laugh. I watch movies that make me cry when I need to. I talk to good friends when I need comforting or when I am angry and need to rage without hurting anyone. I write out my thoughts and feelings when I feel overwhelmed or when I am trying to unravel the many thoughts in my head. I spend time in nature and with family and friends who understand and love me. I quilt when I want to be creative. I read blogs of other survivors and leave long comments that usually help me figure out what is on my mind and in my heart.

This reminds me so much of some of my old inner child and “inner child comforting tips” posts I’ve done in the past. Great! Hey, I want to tell you how much I am enjoying reading your own posts in this carnival. For some reason, when I used to manage the carnival myself, some of the monthly hosts seemed to think that they couldn’t contribute their own posts. I’m so glad you have done so, Kate.

Hi Marj,
Thank you. I recalled someone else had submitted some of their own posts one month when they hosted and asked Tracie if she wanted to preview my posts, before adding them. She was okay with my adding them myself. So I did.
